People, plastic, drugs – we’re all a composition of chemicals, biology or a force of physics and all those other complicated sciences I strayed away from at school.
But the damned internet.
We made it – and unlike our other creations eg: Cranky babies or hybrid lab rats, the internet is a bit, out of control? We’re definitely developing it’s brother: Artificial Intelligence and sister : Artificial Reality to ensure this happy family takes over as the superior race – leaving human beings slaves to its consumption.
Picture this – you look at your dog and you throw his favourite chew toy across the room. He runs to catch it.
Technology throws a meme at you … there’s just no logging off. We’re more addicted to this than a crack head to crack. From the pot to the last waking moment on the clock – I cannot stop scrolling.
I am all for progress. I believe we should all have our spaceships just like the Jetsons did. I even love scrolling endlessly through places I will never visit. I know my friends do as well. This greed for wanderlust will surely secure us all neat little row houses next to each other in hell if not Santorini! Or are we going to hell for all the gluttony – “I NEED TO EAT WHAT SHE IS EATING” mentality. Or is it lust – cause of all the FREE PORN that’s now available. I can’t decide what I’d like Satan (your religion’s hell keeper equivalent) to condemn me for.
But in all honesty, the internet is some freaky shit. Ads tailored to me based on my conversations, my Gmail picking up on emails and suggesting responses. I thought I was cool when I could skip ads on TV- but suddenly I no longer need a TV and all I need to entertain myself is a strong wifi signal?
We’re all so convinced that the Aliens are flying in on flying saucers. Headed our way, picking up and sending out signals. But hey – have you taken a good look at your modem? The resemblance – eerily uncanny. They’re not coming for us – they’re already here aren’t they?
